Victoria Sharks’ head coach Kevin Makmot has vowed to address his team’s shortcomings following a 20-13 loss to the Jinja Hippos on Saturday at Kyadondo Rugby Ground.

Despite a promising first-half performance, the Sharks couldn’t hold onto their lead, resulting in their first defeat at home this season.

The Sharks dominated the first half, taking a 13-8 lead thanks to a try, a conversion, and two penalties by standout player Israel Makoha.

However, the Jinja Hippos came back stronger in the second half, turning the tide with a try from David Wako, a conversion by Yasin Waswa, and a decisive try from Ayman Bagalana.

The result left the Sharks with much to ponder, and Coach Makmot was quick to identify where things went wrong.

Speaking after the game, Makmot admitted that his team failed to maintain the intensity needed to secure the win.

“We could win this game, but the players relaxed,” Makmot said.

“We are going back on the drawing board and will return strong since the premiership has just started.”

Makmot emphasized that his team has the potential to recover and make an impact in the league, urging fans to remain patient as the Sharks work on their weaknesses.

A Fresh Start in Sight

While acknowledging the disappointment of the loss, Makmot struck a hopeful tone about the remainder of the season.

“The season is still young. We are going to address the areas of concern and prepare for our next game. This is just the beginning, and I believe in the team’s ability to bounce back,” he added.

Turning the Page

The Sharks’ focus now shifts to correcting their mistakes and regaining momentum. With Coach Makmot’s leadership and a team eager to prove themselves, the Sharks are determined to put this defeat behind them and fight for their place in the Rugby Premiership.

Fans will be looking to see if Makmot’s promise of a stronger return comes to fruition in the weeks ahead.

One thing is clear: the experienced filled Victoria Sharks are not ready to back down.
