Accra, Ghana has been officially named the host nation for the CAF African Schools Football Championship 2025 Continental Finals, set to take place from April 21 to 26, 2025 at the Legon Sports Stadium.
This marks the first time the tournament will be held in West Africa following previous editions in South Africa (2023) and Tanzania (2024).
Launched in April 2022 by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the CAF African Schools Football Championship has become Africa’s largest youth football initiative with over 1.96 million boys and girls from 46 countries participating.

With a $10 million donation from the Motsepe Foundation, CAF has invested in schools by upgrading sports infrastructure, building libraries, and funding educational projects.
For the 2024/25 season, 46 national school teams competed in Zonal Qualifiers held between October 2024 and January 2025.
The six CAF Zonal Champions, along with the defending champions and hosts Ghana, will battle for the prestigious trophy and a share of the $650,000 prize pool.
- Winners: $300,000
- Runners-up: $200,000
- Third place: $150,000
Uganda will be represented by St. Mary’s Boarding School Kitende (Boys) and St. Noa Girls’ School (Girls) in the Continental Finals.
CAF Director of Member Associations, Sarah Mukuna, expressed excitement for the event:
“We are thrilled to bring the CAF African Schools Football Championship to Ghana, a tournament that continues to inspire young talent across Africa. With partners like CANAL+, we are supporting the next generation of football stars while promoting education and skill development.”
Beyond the competition, CAF will run several capacity-building programs, including:
- CAF D License Coaching Course
- Safeguarding Workshops
- Young Medical Officers Program
- Young Referees Program
- Young Reporters Program
The 10,000-seater Legon Sports Stadium, originally built for the 2023 African Games, will provide a world-class venue for both matches and CAF’s training initiatives.
