2026 CAF Africa Cup Of Nations | Group B | Morocco | Wednesday May 13
- Uganda 3-0 DR Congo
Uganda Cubs made a dream start to their CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over DR Congo in Group B on Wednesday.
The young Cubs looked calm, confident and in control for most of the match as they claimed an important opening victory against the tournament debutants.
Uganda slowly grew into the game and deservedly took the lead in the 37th minute through influential midfielder Owen Mukisa, who finished off a good spell of pressure.
DR Congo struggled to recover before halftime and Uganda struck again deep into stoppage time. Nicholas Kawooya found the net in the 45+2 minute to give the Cubs a commanding lead at the break.
The Congolese returned stronger in the second half and tried to force their way back into the match, but Uganda stayed organised defensively and remained dangerous on the counterattack.
Any hopes of a comeback disappeared in the 82nd minute when Abdulshakur Babi sealed the victory with Uganda’s third goal of the evening.
Coach Laryea Kingston’s side now move level on points with Côte d’Ivoire at the top of Group B after the Ivorians defeated Cameroon earlier in the day.
The result gives Uganda an early advantage in the race for a place in the knockout stages and qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Next Uganda will face Cameroon on Saturday May 16.
