Pearl Queens matched JT Lady Jaguars for long spells, but the league leaders still found a way to complete a season double with a 64-54 victory on Wednesday night at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.
After suffering a humiliating 74-29 loss in the first meeting, Pearl Queens returned with far more fight and belief.
They trailed 20-14 after the opening quarter but responded strongly in the second period, battling back to tie the game 32-32 at halftime.
The contest remained competitive for much of the night before JT Lady Jaguars pulled away in the closing stages through their experience and control on the boards.
Mary Priscillar Nambogo led the Jaguars with 19 points, while Sarah Ageno registered a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Shakirah Nanvubya added 12 points in the victory.
Pearl Queens also had standout performers despite the defeat. Jane Chisom Iriele finished with a dominant double double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, Belinda Okoth added 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Djenabo Ballo scored 13 points.
JT Lady Jaguars committed 23 turnovers but still dominated the rebounds 54-48, a key factor in sealing the win.
Pearl Queens struggled from three-point range, missing 16 of their 20 attempts, while their bench contributed only three points.
The result marked JT Lady Jaguars’ 15th win in 17 games as they tightened their grip at the top of the National Basketball League standings.
Pearl Queens have now lost eight of their 16 games this season, but their improved display against the league leaders will hope to give them confidence heading into a more manageable run of fixtures.
Later on the night, Jaguars franchise Basketball Head Coach Sudi Ulanga who had found some joy succumbed to defeat against red hot Namuwongo Blazers 93-66 in the Men’s National Basketball League.
