The President of CAF, Patrice Motsepe, announced on Sunday the reorganization of the calendar of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Ivory Coast.

Initially, it was scheduled to kickoff on the 23rd of June and end on the 23rd of July, 2023, but it has now been postponed for January and February 2024.

The African football boss made the announcement in Rabat, Morocco, at the end of a meeting of the Executive Committee of CAF.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Women’s AFCON which is being hosted by Morocco.

“I am proud of the good work done by Côte d’Ivoire. The main problem here is basically the rain,” said the South African leader in a press conference.

“This is the one and only reason why the CAF Executive Committee took the decision to move the AFCON to Côte d’Ivoire in January 2024.”

In 2017, CAF announced that it would move the finals from their traditional January-February slot to June-July in a bid to avoid repeated disputes with European clubs forced to release players in the middle of the season.
