To support the development of rugby amongst the youth, the British High Commission Kampala has handed over kits to several Age Grade Rugby teams in Uganda via the Uganda Rugby Union (URU).
The handover took place today at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds and was preceded by a friendly match between Kyadondo RFC U17 and Rams RFC U17.
The items handed over to the URU to dispatch included jackets, boots, balls, and shin guards to support up to 300 rugby players in the U-17 category.
Marcella Winearls, Head of Public Diplomacy and Strategy at the British High Commission Kampala noted that they recognise the importance of supporting future stars in the infancy of their sports careers.
“Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in Uganda and this is our way of being part of their journey to success.”
URU intends to disseminate the donated items to teams from community centres and regional upcountry teams, comprised of youth from communities.
“Players face several challenges at the foundational level. This will excite them and give them more impetus to focus on their skills to become future stars,” Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe, the President of URU said.
