Uganda Lady Cranes XVs were officially flagged off at Cooper Chimney in Lugogo on Tuesday ahead of the 2026 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.
The send off ceremony brought together Uganda Rugby officials, representatives from the National Council of Sports and supporters who turned up to rally behind the women’s national team before departure for the tournament scheduled for May 21-31.
Uganda Rugby executives Prossey Pearce Nakakande, Phionah Karungi and Peter Odong led the ceremony alongside National Council of Sports officials Chelangat Sarah and Joseph Oluga.
The Lady Cranes head into the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup (Performance Division) determined to compete strongly against Kenya, South Africa and Madagascar.
Team captain Angella Nanyonjo said the squad is confident and ready for the challenge ahead.

“The team is excited, we have a blend of young players who have performed well in the local league, and we can’t wait to play with them,” Nanyonjo said.
Her comments reflected the belief within the camp as Uganda prepares for tough battles against some of Africa’s strongest rugby nations.
The Lady Cranes will leave for Kenya on Thursday, May 21, before opening their campaign against hosts Kenya on Saturday, May 23 at 4pm East African time.

Uganda will also face South Africa and Madagascar in the tournament.
