Uganda’s Victor Kiplangat wrote history as the first Ugandan to win a marathon gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
The 22 year old clocked 2:10:55 to also win Uganda’s first medal in the Birmingham games today.

It was an East African sweep as Tanzania’a Alfred Simbu (2:12:29) and Kenya’s Micheal Githae (2:13:16) crossed the finish line in second and third positions respectively.

Solomon Mutai was Uganda’s last medal winner in the said race as he won silver at the Gold Coast in 2018.

Kiplangat kept himself inside the leading pack as Australia’s Liam Adams dictated pace.

And, as they approached 25km, Kiplangat fancied his tank and started to run bold all the way to gold.

Previously, he won the World Mountain Running Championships (2017) and won the 2022 marathon in Hamburg.
