Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has highlighted that his side’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification 2-0 defeat to Algeria gave the team a lot to learn than demoralize them.

Uganda was beaten by the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations champions at Stade de 5 Juillet in Algiers on Saturday, but, it’s the display rather than the defeat, that sprung criticism directed at Micho.

However, the latter sounded optimistic as he spoke about the forthcoming game against Niger on Wednesday.

“For us, the Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign is starting on Wednesday against Niger,” Micho told the media.

“The game against Algeria has been a good test of character for our team because this is not an easy place to come play.”

“Certain moments decided the game I believe, but, us missing a penalty against such an opposition was demoralizing to the players.”

“I have a personal belief that in football, if you do not win, at least you learn a lesson and we have learnt a lot and we shall improve against Niger,” he added.

In the other game that was played on the same day, Niger and Tanzania drew 1-1 and that means Uganda is bottom of Group F after one round of fixtures.

Uganda will be keen on picking a home win against Niger if they are to stand any realistic chances of ascending from Group F.
