The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the people of the 18 counties that form the Kingdom to rally strongly behind this year’s Buganda Masaza Cup.
Speaking ahead of the launch of the 22nd edition of the prestigious football competition at Bulange on June 10, he stated: “With the continuing divisions in politics, religion, and all spheres of life, we are left with only one avenue to unite Buganda, football. The Masaza Cup is key to this cause.”
He added, “Therefore, I am urging all people in Buganda, regardless of their backgrounds, to rally behind the Masaza Cup because no one can defeat Buganda if we are united.”
The 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup is set to kick off this Saturday, June 13, in Mubende, with reigning champions Buwekula taking on 2008 winners Kyadondo.
The remaining Game Week 1 fixtures, co-sponsored by Kansai Plascon Uganda, will be played on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with the action continuing on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The tournament will run until October 31, featuring over 100 matches involving all 18 counties across the entire Buganda Kingdom.
The competition will utilize a mixed format, starting with a home-and-away round-robin in the group stage before advancing to a knockout format from the quarterfinals onward.
