Match day eight of the Masaza Cup is set to heat up this Sunday, August 25th, as Kyadondo and Buddu face off in an anticipated tense encounter at Homesdalen Gayaza.

Coaching Controversies

The buildup to the match has been marred by controversy, as several coaches from different teams have been suspended by the Masaza Cup organizing committee. Buddu, Buwekula, and Butambala are all missing their head coaches due to these suspensions.

Buddu’s head coach, Simon Dungu Dunga, has been handed a one-match ban and a fine for his indiscipline during his side’s 1-0 victory over Butambala last weekend. His assistant, Simon Gitta, will take over coaching duties for the Kyadondo game.

The first leg ended 1-0 in favour of Buddu in Masaka, decided by a controversial penalty. This match promises to be a tricky one for Kyadondo, coming at a time when Buddu who had a bad start to the campaign are starting to gain momentum.

However, Kyadondo enters the match with a home advantage and a full squad at their disposal while Buddu will continue to miss the services of Masudi Kafumbe who also missed their last game against Butambala.

Butambala Faces Challenges

Butambala has been hit hardest by the disciplinary committee, with both their head coach Mustafa Kayinda and assistant Hood Mayanja receiving lengthy suspensions, in addition to fines.

Eddie Ssenkaali will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season and his first assignment will be hosting Buluuli on Saturday, 24 August 2024 at Kibibi SS.

Buluuli currently leads Group Bulange with 13 points, followed by Buddu on 11 points. Kyadondo is in third place with 10 points. Bugerere and the defending champions Bulemeezi who face off this weekend, are in fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Muganzirwazza group

Buwekula’s head coach, Felix Ssekabuza, has also been given a one-match ban and fined. His assistant, Davis Nono, will be in charge as they host Kyaggwe at Mubende NTC.

The match could determine who joins Ssingo in the quarterfinals from the group. Buwekula is currently at 12 points and needs a win to secure their place.

Ssingo, the competition’s top team, will host Kooki at Mityana Ssaza ground – where they have a perfect record of 3 wins from 3 games. A win would take them to 20 points from 8 games.

In the final group fixture, Mawogola, who have been banned from hosting matches for two games, will face the record champions Gomba at Kabulasoke.

In Masengere group, Busiro is aiming for their first home win of the season against Kabula, with both teams having their full squads available for selection. Busujju will host Ssese, and Mawokota will welcome Buvuma.
