The second round of the Plascon Uganda powered Buganda Masaza Cup produced a major upset as Leo Ssekamatte’s Bulemeezi suffered their first defeat of the campaign, losing 1-0 at home to Mawokota.
Herbert Kibirango scored the lone goal that proved enough for Mawokota to claim all three points against Bulemeezi in a match played at Kosovo Grounds in Kasana, Luweero.
The victory revived Mawokota’s campaign after they had opened the season with a 1-0 defeat to Kyaggwe, while three-time champions Bulemeezi remained winless after two games, having drawn their opening fixture against Ssese.
A total of nine matches were played over the weekend, producing 17 goals, four more than the 13 scored during the opening round, highlighting improved scoring across the competition.
Like Mawokota, Busujju also impressed on the road with a 2-1 victory over Buluuli to maintain their perfect start to the season after two games. Buluuli, meanwhile, have begun the campaign with successive defeats.
With Busujju and Mawokota registering away victories, they joined Kyaggwe, who had defeated Mawokota in Buwama during the opening round, as teams to have won away from home this season.
Elsewhere, Gomba defeated Ssese 2-1 at Kabulasoke PTC to avoid a repeat of last year’s disappointment when they lost to the Islanders at the same venue.
While Gomba avoided an upset, defending champions Buweekula were not as fortunate, falling 1-0 to Buvuma on the islands.
Kyaggwe also maintained their perfect start with a 1-0 victory over Busiro, joining Busujju as the only teams to open the 2026 campaign with back to back wins.
After two rounds of Airtel Buganda Masaza Cup group stage action, Busujju lead the Bulange Group, while Kyaggwe top the highly competitive Masengere Group. Butambala are in charge of the Muganzirwazza Group.
