Days after his appointment as interim head coach at KCCA FC, taking over from Morley Byekwaso, Jackson Mayanja is already promising to bloom at the Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
The legend has highlighted he only intends to win the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League, and it’s his sole objective.
“I’m only here to see that we win the trophy. That is all. There is nothing much,” said Mayanja in his first press conference.
Mayanja wants the KCCA players to forget about the past, and the previous management and only focus on what is at stake.
“When a team loses a coach, when the manager goes away, many things run into the players’ minds,” he noted before adding:
“I think KCCA has not yet had a poor run, although it is five games without a win.”
“The mindset of the players is very important. The psychological part of the players is very important. Mindset, every player must know. It is the trophy.”
KCCA takes on nemesis SC Villa at Lugogo on Sunday in a top-of-the-table clash. While KCCA sits second with 38 points, Villa are on 43 at the top.
“There are only two things we need to work on, the psychological and then the fitness. That’s what I saw yesterday.”
“It’s a big game, a big day for the fans, a big day for the players, for the technical staff, and even the media.
Mayanja has previously managed at URA FC, Bunamwaya SC, Kagera FC, Simba SC, Kyetume FC, AS Kigali (Assistant Coach), Uganda Cranes (Assistant Coach), and most recently, Uganda Hippos (U20).
