The National Basketball League continued on Wednesday evening at the MTN Arena in Lugogo, with UCU Lady Canons beating UPDF Ladies 68-61.
The Lady Canons had a 38-18 first half to set themselves up for a comfortable ending with a 20-point cushion. UPDF mastered a 27-9 fourth quarter, but it was a little too late to upset the comfort the Canons had established.
Shillah Lamunu and Aziidah Nabayunga led all scorers on the Lady Canon’s team with 15 points each, with Sylvia Nantongo adding 8 points.
Aziida Nabayunga was player of the game with 15 points, 6 rebounds, (3) three pointers made and 2 assists. Christine Namyalo and Stella Maris Lunkuse spurred on the UPDF Lady Team with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The other fixture
In the men’s game, Ndejje Angels outlasted Livingstone to register their first win of the season, winning 64-55.
Ndejje Angels had a solid 39-23 lead at halftime but had to put on a defence masterclass to withstand the Livingstone fight. Livingstone rallied to a 20-13 score in 3Q, but a 12-12 fourth quarter meant Ndejje would win.
Ndejje Angels Christian Ndibu was voted player of the game after registering a season-high 19 rebounds, in addition to his 9 points and three assists.
Oscar Byomuhangi (Livingstone) and Haron Alinaitwe (Ndejje) led all the scorers on the night, with 13 points each.
The Lady Canons will be in action again on Friday at the Indoor Arena in Lugogo against the KCCA Leopards. Later, in the men’s game, KIU Titans will look to repair the damage done by Nam Blazers as they play the UCU Canons.
