2026 National Basketball League | Men | Sunday May 24
- City Oilers 59-53 JT Jaguars
City Oilers shook off Friday’s painful defeat to Nam Blazers with a hard-fought 59-53 win over JT Jaguars in the National Basketball League on Sunday at Lugogo Indoor Arena.
The defending champions had to dig deep after a slow start against a determined Jaguars side chasing consistency in a difficult season.
JT Jaguars came out stronger and led 17-12 after the opening quarter, with Peter Sifuma imposing himself in the paint.
But the Oilers responded in the second quarter, tightening their defence and limiting the Jaguars to just 10 points to take a 34-27 lead into halftime.
The Jaguars refused to fade away. They pressed harder after the break and twice tied the game in the final quarter, threatening to hand the Oilers back to back defeats.
Instead, City Oilers found another gear when it mattered most, closing the game on an 8-0 run to seal an important victory.
Joel Kayiira led the Oilers with 19 points, while Fayed Bbale added 13. Titus Lual chipped in with six points and 15 rebounds as the Oilers dominated the boards 55-48.
New signing Jonathan Komagum also showed improvement after struggling against Nam Blazers, finishing with four points, seven rebounds and two assists.
For JT Jaguars, Sifuma stood out with 16 points and 22 rebounds, while Victor Bwana scored 11 points in defeat.
Neither side impressed from three-point range. The Oilers missed 23 of 26 attempts, while the Jaguars missed 21 of 24.
The win lifted the Oilers to 17 victories in 19 games this season, while JT Jaguars suffered their 11th defeat in 18 matches.
