Paul ‘McGyver’ Odong produced a captain’s performance for the ages as Namuwongo Blazers thrashed Kampala Rockets 110-64 in a National Basketball League game at Abja Park, Nalya on Wednesday.
The Blazers skipper was unstoppable, scoring a record-breaking 53 points and sinking 15 three-pointers, both new NBL records. He also grabbed 14 rebounds to complete a memorable double-double.

For much of the opening quarter, Kampala Rockets matched the defending champions. A late three-pointer from Francis Kasinde left the Rockets trailing by just one point at 24-23.
But once Odong found his range, the contest quickly slipped away from the Rockets.
The prolific guard knocked down four three-pointers in the second quarter as the Blazers stretched their advantage to 55-38 at halftime.
The gap continued to grow after the break. Namuwongo’s quick ball movement and transition play overwhelmed the Rockets, who struggled to keep pace as the lead ballooned to 31 points heading into the final quarter.
Any remaining resistance disappeared in the last period when the Rockets managed only nine points while the Blazers continued their relentless scoring.
Odong’s historic night headlined another dominant team display. Nyemeck Kevin added a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds, while Kasereka Tembo contributed 15 points.
Kasinde fought hard for Kampala Rockets with 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Gideon Kasasa added 17 points.
