Speaking to reporters at the launch of the 2026 Masaza Cup, David Birungi urged the public, especially the youth to embrace this year’s tournament theme: the fight against AIDS.

The Airtel Uganda Public Relations and Corporate Communications Officer emphasized, “I encourage you to continue to be active participants in the fight against AIDS because it is the central theme of the Buganda Masaza Cup competition. I often tell you not to discriminate against those who are already infected, and I extend this encouragement to all people, especially the youth.”

He added, “I would also like to inform you that this time you can watch the Masaza Cup football matches on our Smart Connect, choosing from your favorite matches across all 18 counties the same way you would watch the World Cup.”

The Masaza Cup is one of the key tools championed by the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, in the ongoing fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in central Uganda.

This year’s annual Buganda Tournament will kick off on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with defending champions Buwekula hosting 2008 winners Kyadondo at the National Teachers College in Mubende.
