The University League Disciplinary Panel has imposed a suspended ban to Makerere University over alleged fans violence and hooliganism.
Makerere now risks suspension for five years following accused deadly physical assaults in their match with YMCA Comprehensive Institute in May at Buwambo.
The violence kicked in after YMCA scored a second goal, having had to come from one down. The away fans did not concede that it should have been given, which led to chaos and abandonment.
The League’s disciplinary panel has as a result decided they will terminate Makerere’s involvement for at the least five years, should they involve themselves in the same again.
“Makerere has been given a suspended five year suspension from the league,” revealed the Thursday ruling.
More penalties have been issued to the prestigious university, in a strong statement to put a complete end to hooliganism.
They have lost the aforementioned match by forfeiture (3-0) and YMCA’s goals will as well stand.
The University has also been docked six points plus the same number of goals. They have also been ordered to part with One million shillings.
The University has been given up to 48 hours in case they need to make an appeal.
In 2019, Makerere was suspended for two years over violence and hooliganism, and this edition had marked their return.
In other disciplinary actions taken by the panel, University of Kisubi has been fined Ugx. 500,000 for fielding an ineligible player against Muni University.
International University of East Africa has lost the match to Victoria University by 3-0 after the former failed to show readiness to play with one hour to kickoff.
