Maroons Football Club secured their third win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Grounds. Frederick Kigoziโs 73rd-minute strike proved decisive, elevating the Luzira-based club to seventh on the log with 12 points.
The match began with drama in the 6th minute as Rogers Kiwanuka thought he had given the visitors an early lead, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Bright Starsโ Nelson Senkatuka came close in the 30th minute, but his effort was blocked by Boris Onegi before reaching goalkeeper Simon Tamale.
Maroons midfielder Ivan Asaba shone throughout the match teaming up well with Abel Etrude, controlling the game with his composure, dribbling, and passing. His most notable opportunity came at the peak of the first half when his shot was brilliantly saved, leaving the score goalless at halftime.
The second half saw Maroons dominate possession, showing hunger to claim all three points. Their persistence paid off in the 73rd minute when Asaba orchestrated a clever play, delivering a precise pass to Robert Orombi on the wing. Orombiโs cross found Kigozi, who calmly tapped the ball into the back of the net, silencing the home fans.
Maroons substitute Ivan Mayanja nearly doubled the lead in the 83rd minute, but his effort narrowly missed the target. Despite Bright Starsโ late attempts to find an equalizer, Maroonsโ defence held firm, with Simon Tamale making important interventions.
The victory brings Maroons’ record this season to three wins, three draws, and three losses, positioning them seventh in the standings. A victory in their next game at home against BUL FC on November 29 could see them climb to fourth place, potentially reigniting their contention in the league.
Speaking after the game, Maroons captain Ronald Orombi emphasized the importance of consistency in the coming matches.
“We aim to be more consistent by getting back-to-back positive results in all games,” said Orombi.
Head coach Mohammad Senfuma praised his players for their performance, highlighting their determination and focus.
“Iโm proud of the teamโs effort today. Our focus now shifts to the next game at home in Luzira, and weโll continue to push for better results,” said Senfuma
