Soroti City CC won by 65 runs
Janet Mbabazi led from the front with a brilliant half century as Soroti City Cricket Club opened their Cricket Uganda Women’s National T20 League Division One campaign with a convincing 65 run victory over Wanderers Cricket Club at Florida Ground on Saturday.
Mbabazi scored 58 off 41 balls, striking seven boundaries to anchor Soroti City’s innings of 133 for 8. Her knock came after a steady start from Jimia Muhammed and Timong Patricia, who added 17 and 35 respectively.
Soroti City reached 33 before losing Muhammed, but Patricia and Mbabazi combined to keep the scoreboard moving. Mbabazi then accelerated in the latter stages, ensuring her side posted a challenging total despite a late collapse that saw six wickets fall for just nine runs.
For Wanderers, Mary Namiiro was the standout bowler with four wickets for 15 runs, while captain Shadia Nabulime Giligish claimed three wickets.
In reply, Wanderers never recovered from an early collapse. They slipped to 11 for 3 inside five overs after losing Sonia Nampeera, Judith Nakasagga and Nabulime.
Mary Namiiro made 9 while Esther Ariokot and Irene Alumo scored 12 apiece, but no batter was able to build a significant partnership as Soroti City’s bowlers kept the pressure on.
Naume Jane Amongin and Mitchelle Aryago picked up two wickets each, while Tino Sarah delivered a miserly spell of 1 for 4 from four overs. Ruth Akello and Timong Patricia also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Wanderers closed on 68 for 9 from their 20 overs, handing Soroti City a comfortable opening day win.
