The Namuwongo Blazers on Friday night defeated 9-time defending champions, City Oilers, to win 60-54.

The Blazers came down from 36-28 at the half, mastered a solid second half (won the 4Q by 24-12) and handed the City Oilers their first loss of the season. The Oilers were on a 5-game winning streak, while the Blazers had a record of one loss and four wins.

Joseph Chuma led all scorers with 18 points and got help from Peter Cheng and Paul Odong contributing 12 points each. Mikiadi Michael had a stellar rebounding night, with 17, and Peter Cheng with 10.

The Oilers had only two players score points in double figures with Titus Lual and Mer Maker scoring 13 and 11 points each. The two swapped places on the rebounds leaderboard with 6 and 9.

In the earlier encounter, the JKL Dolphins continued their reign of dominance over the women’s division, putting the UCU Lady Canons away with a 75-68 win.

After a lacklustre first half, the Lady Canons registered a better account of themselves but the damage had long been done to put the Dolphins beyond reach.

Hope Akello

Hope Akello was in her ruthless mode, throwing down 23 points and accompanying that with 15 rebounds. Rita Imani wasn’t far behind with 15 points, while Becky Kerem had 10 points.

Bridget Aber registered a double-double for the Lady Canons, collecting 11 points and 12 rebounds. Shakirah Nanvubya and Aziidah Nabayunga had 13 points each.
