National Men’s 50 Over League Kicks Off with Ceylon Lions and Nyakasura Victories

Ceylon Lion and Nyakasura secured comfortable wins against Tornado Bee and Wanderers respectively in their opening games of the National Men’s 50 Over League over the weekend.

The former bowled off the new season with a 9-wicket win on Saturday while the latter registered their victory in form of a 2-wicket win on Sunday.

Both sides had bowlers star for them, with Siraje Nsubuga inspiring Ceylon Lions to victory with a 6-wicket haul and Joseph Baguma doing the same for Nyakasura, with four wickets.

Nsubuga took charge of nine Overs and conceded just 20 runs. Baguma on the other hand came short of a hat trick by a fraction. The 18-year-old picked three of his wickets in the 29th Over – his sixth.

Baguma also contributed to his side’s batting. Batting at No.7, he scored 25 not out as the school boys completed their chase in the 24.5 Over.

Wanderers, led by Abu Seguya‘s 47 set 148/10, but owing to the afternoon drizzles, the target was revised to 133 which Nyakasura found little resistance in chasing.

Amos Ahura (35), Fortunate Alijuna (17) and Innocent Mwebaze (19) were the other players that inked double figures for Nyakasura.

Ceylon Lions with a net run rate of 4.0 take an lead in the league.

Strong start for Avengers

In the Championship games, Avengers made their intentions of an instant return to the league known.

Avengers were among the two sides that were demoted last season, but they opened their season with a double header win against Budo.

The side beat Budo by 7 and 8 wickets in the morning and afternoon games respectively.

Team captain Joshi Yashashvi picked three wickets in that game while U19 star Christopher Kidega scored an unbeaten 35. The 35 was an addition to the 47 he scored in the morning game.
