Netball Uganda president Joycline Ucanda announced that the federation has secured office space at the former National Council of Sports (NCS) hostel.
This milestone marks a crucial step in the federation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, administration, and strategic planning for the sport.
The announcement was made during Netball Uganda’s first Annual General Assembly (AGA) held at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo.
The assembly, the first since the new executive took office following the October 26, 2024, elections, brought together key stakeholders to discuss the future of the sport.
The AGA set the stage for a revitalized approach to netball administration in Uganda. Among the key resolutions passed was the confirmation of the activity calendar which officially schedules the return of league action on April 5th at Nakivubo Stadium.
This marks a long-awaited comeback for the league, which last saw action in 2023 when NIC Netball Club was crowned champions.
Additionally, 11 committees were established and confirmed to drive various aspects of the federation’s objectives. These committees will oversee areas such as:
- Technical
- Umpires
- Planning and Events
- Finance and Marketing
- Media and Publicity
- Legal
- Safety and Equipment
- Safeguarding
- Medical
- Athletes
- Anti Doping
The adoption of a strategic plan developed by corporate planner Ivan Kaleme, further cemented the federation’s commitment to long term growth.
The plan outlines a clear path for netball’s development, focusing on governance, partnerships, resource mobilization, brand visibility, and capital infrastructure.
Beyond securing an office space, Netball Uganda also made a significant move towards financial stability by opening an account with EcoBank.
This development is expected to improve financial management and transparency within the federation.
The renewed energy within the sport has already been evident, with sanctioned netball games taking place during the Novice and National Rally tournaments in Kawanda and Busia, respectively.
This resurgence follows a period of dormancy, as the last official games were played in 2023.
