In an unprecedented move, Warriors Rugby Club on Wednesday evening won their appeal against the Elgon Wolves, who had fielded an ineligible player.

The decision means that there shall be a replay of the Playoff semi-final between the Wolves and the Warriors, slated for this weekend in Jinja.

According to the Appeals Committee, Elgon Wolves Rugby Club was in breach of World Rugby Regulation 4.5.6.

It states that only a player currently registered with a Union shall be able to participate in competitions organized, recognized, and sanctioned by that Union.

The player in question, Brighton Bakasa, was part of the squad presented by the Elgon Wolves (Uganda Rugby Union) and the Homeboyz (Kenya Rugby Union).

Owing to the findings of the committee, URU canceled the result of the match played last weekend and ordered a rematch between the two teams.

The move hands Warriors a new lease of life in their attempt to return to the Nile Special Rugby Premier League just after a season in the second division.
