Uganda Cranes are determined to secure a win against Congo Brazzaville in their upcoming AFCON qualifier match. Following a 2-2 draw with Bafana Bafana, the Cranes are eager to capitalize on home advantage and secure a positive result.
Both teams have had their final preparations for the match, which is scheduled for September 9, 2024. In the lead-up to the game, Uganda Cranes captain Khalid Aucho expressed his team’s focus on securing a home victory:
“We finished the game on Friday and travelled that long distance. Our team is good. We know our opponents and our target is to win, nothing else.”
Head coach Paul Put has hinted at the potential return of Muhammad Shaban, who missed the South Africa game due to a minor injury. While the team is still recovering from their long journey, Shaban’s participation is a possibility.
Despite the availability of returning players like Halid Lwaliwa and Kenneth Ssemakula, Put is likely to maintain the starting lineup that faced South Africa or make minor adjustments in the midfield.
Uganda Cranes have concluded a successful training session, while Congo Brazzaville created a controversial scene by refusing to speak to Ugandan media. The Congolese team later conducted their own pitch training at 7:00 PM on Sunday.
Heading into the match, Uganda holds a strong record against Congo Brazzaville, having won both previous encounters at Namboole Stadium. In their four meetings, Uganda has recorded two wins and a draw.
In their last matches, Uganda drew 2-2 with South Africa, while Congo Brazzaville defeated South Sudan 1-0 in Group K of the 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
