Before facing South Africa and Congo Brazzaville in the last two AFCON 2025 qualifiers games, Uganda Cranes made it to next year’s finals in Morocco.
Thanks to caring neighbour South Sudan who ended Congo Brazzaville’s chances of qualifying by beating them 3-2 in Juba.
In search for the first win of the campaign on the road, Congo Brazzaville through Christopher Ibayi found the lead of the game in the 26th minute but Ebon Ezibon was there for South Sudan to equalise.
Four minutes after South Sudan’s equaliser, Ibayi found another goal for the visitors but also it didn’t last beyond 12 minutes when Ezibon grabbed the second equaliser for the host in first-half stoppage time.
After getting into the half-time interval at 2-2, the final 45 decisive minutes saw visitors going a man less before Elly Data’s winner handed South Sudan the first win of the campaign.
The results left both South Sudan and Congo Brazzaville short of catching South Africa on 8 points and leader Uganda on 10 points as they count 3 and 4 points in Group K respectively.
Reaching next year’s edition it took Uganda to the 8th time qualifying for the Africa’s major football tournament having been there in 1962, 1968, 1974, 1976, 1978, 2017, 2019.
Uganda along with South Africa have joined host Morocco on the list of teams to play at the 35th Edition of the Championship.
The list also already has Angola, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Senegal, DR Congo, Algeria, Cameroon and Burkina Faso as other teams shall be confirmed by the end of this international break.
