The Cricket Cranes ended match day five of their tour of India with mixed results after beating Omtex ICWC and losing to the same side in the afternoon game on Thursday.

The two sides first met in the morning, and Uganda won the game by 6 wickets thanks majorly to Dinesh Nakrani and Ronald Lutaaya who shone with the ball and the bat respectively.

Nakrani was playing his first game in this tour, but he staged a Player of the Match performance as he picked three wickets to help Uganda restrict Omtex’s total to just 124.

On the other hand, Lutaya who has been the most consistent player in this tour turned up with a 50, his second half century in this tour.

Frank Nsubuga (2), Innocent Mwebaze (2) and David Wabwire (1) contributed to Omtex’s low score while Robinson Obuya (36 not out), Fred Achelam (10) and Roger Mukasa (12) who batted down the order at three down accelerated the chase that ended in the 17.5 Over.

Aternoon encounter

Like the morning game, the Cricket Cranes were tasked to chase in the afternoon one, but this didn’t end well as they lost the game by 21 runs.

Nakrani (26) and Obuya (29) were decent with the bat and had coach Jackson Ogwang and his team hopeful, but once their wickets fell, it was a cruise for Omtex who had both Nsubuga and Cyrus Kakuru downed for a duck.

Nakrani (2), Nsubuga (2), Mwebaze (2) and Kenneth Waiswa (1) all had their names in the wicket column, but just not enough for Uganda who fell to their sixth defeat in India.

The sole purpose of this tour is to fine tune the Cricket Cranes ahead of their maiden appearance at the World Cup.

They will finalise it tomorrow against the same side, and Ogwang will be hopeful his charges have learned a thing or two as they continue with their preparations.
