St. Lawrence picked a vital away goal in the 2022 Pepsi University Football League as they narrowly defeated Kampala University 0-1.

SLAU scored the only goal of the game in the 87th minute thanks to Fahad Aniku‘s strike for the visitors to take the first leg advantage.

An encounter played at Kibuli on Thursday was an even one and a game of two halves regards dominance from both sides.

Hosts Kampala University saw the ball for the largest part of the first half but could not find a way through hence a goalless draw at the interval.

Ojok Simon, Kampala University’s assistant tactician who stood in for the absent Vincent Tumusiime Titi stressed that it is still an open affair.

“I can’t blame my players, we conceded through an error. I believe in the second leg we are going to rectify as coaching staff but again it’s not yet over.”

The guests had an improved start to the second half and dominated proceedings throughout hence managing a goal towards the end of the game.

Davis Nnono‘s charges will build on their slim win picked away from home when they host the second leg in two weeks at Crown City Campus, Kavule.

“It was a fair game and we managed to win the day. However, it’s still a huge hill to climb but we got a good foundation to build on,” Nnono noted.

Action in the first leg of the quarterfinals will resume next week on Tuesday, September 20th 2022 when Bugema University hosts Uganda Martyrs University.
