St. Lawrence University managed a narrow 2-1 win over Makerere University Business School (MUBS), in the first leg of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League semifinals in Kavule last Tuesday.

But, despite St. Lawrence’s tie advantage, head coach Nnono Ssozi expects a more difficult second leg challenge against MUBS in Nakawa tomorrow.

“We are ready for Tuesday’s game but we know that we are facing a very tough side,” Ssozi said.

“We are lucky that we managed to win the first leg but we made so many mistakes including missing many chances.”

“In the last few days, we have tried to rectify the mistakes in training to ensure that we do not face the same challenges in the second leg.”

MUBS managed an away goal through Benjamin Nazar which was cancelled out by Bruno Bunyaga and Michael Kayongo‘s goals.

“Having lost the first leg, we came back and reviewed the game and saw the mistakes that cost us,” Ali Zinda MUBS head coach said in his pre-match interview adding.

“We have also prepared our players on the aspect of mental toughness because it is also an important aspect to players in addition to the physical toughness aspect.”

MUBS and St. Lawrence will be meeting for the fourth time and during the previous three outings, the former won twice compared to the latter’s one win.

St. Lawrence were the last edition’s losing finalists to Uganda Christian University while MUBS last featured in the final in 2017 when they lost to Uganda Martyrs University.

Uganda Martyrs awaits the winner between MUBS and St. Lawrence in the final to be played on the 12th of November 2022.
