Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) defeated defending champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) 5-4 on penalties to make the final of the 2022 Pepsi University Football League.
UMU return to the final they last played in the 2017 edition, which they also won for their only title in the competition’s history.
UCU had won the first leg of this tie 1-0 in Mukono last week, but succumbed to the same score line, thanks to Sunny Kaija’s 67th-minute goal for UMU in the second leg played in Nkozi on Thursday.
Tied 1-1 after 180 minutes, the winner had to be decided by spot-kicks, a battle UMU won 5-4.
In the final on November 12th, UMU awaits the winner between St. Lawrence University and Makerere University Business School who will meet again next week on Tuesday, November 1st at Nakawa for the second leg of the second semifinal.
St. Lawrence edged MUBS 2-1 when the two sides faced off on Tuesday this week in the first leg.
