KCCA FC will hope they can fend off opposition from rivals Vipers SC when the two lock-horns in the Uganda Premier League today evening at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
Today’s guests have managed three victories in the past seven meetings at Lugogo, including last season’s 2-1 win, but coach Robertinho feels Saturday’s challenge will be a lot more difficult for his side.
“We don’t expect an easy game. We just have to be ready for work and for the hardest work,” said the Brazilian via Vipers media.
“The quality they have and their coach is exceptional. It’s always a tough game. Our players know we have an incredible challenge today.”
“It’s a very, very difficult game – hopefully for both teams – because both teams will perform on a high level.”
“Its early in the season and so many things are different this season. Nothing is to compare with last season. Nothing is to compare with the season before,” added the 62-year old.
Meanwhile, KCCA’s head coach Morley Byekwaso has warned his side against lackluster shows and called for seriousness.
“Everyone knows the magnitude and weight of this fixture,” Byekwaso said during his pre-match press conference on Friday at Lugogo.
“We are playing against a team that is fresh from attaining qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages.”
“To manage anything positive against such an opponent we need to be more serious and more effective.”
The two giants will be meeting for the 35th time in the top flight league, and the guests have a slight advantage .
Vipers have managed 14 wins, while KCCA have 11, with nine encounters ending in stalemates. .
At Lugogo since the 2012/13 campaign, there has been a total of 10 league meetings, with four victories apiece and two draws.
Vipers’ Ibrahim Orit resumed training this week having suffered an injury against TP Mazembe a fortnight ago. It awaits to be seen if he will be available for selection for a side that is yet to score in open play this season.
Meanwhile, Byekwaso is looking at late fitness tests for forwards Muhammad Shaban and Brian Aheebwa.
