2025/26 Uganda Premier League | Wednesday, May 19 | MD 29
- NEC FC Vs SC Villa – Phillip Omondi Stadium | 8 pm
Second place remains within reach for SC Villa as the record champions prepare for a difficult trip to Lugogo to face NEC FC in the final match of match day 29.
Villa head into the contest sitting fourth on 55 points, seven behind NEC, but belief is still strong inside the camp that they can finish above their rivals before the season ends.
The task, however, will not come easy. NEC are enjoying one of their best runs of the season.
Since losing 2-1 to KCCA FC on December 12, Badru Kaddu’s side has gone 19 matches in all competitions without defeat.
The hosts also have a game in hand after Buhimba United Saints failed to turn up for their match day 28 fixture at Lugogo.
Despite NEC’s form, Villa will draw confidence from recent meetings between the two sides. The Jogoos have already beaten NEC twice this season in the league and FUFA Super 8 and have won four of the six meetings between the clubs.
NEC will rely on Richard Basangwa to lead the attack against a Villa defence anchored by youngsters Barasa Mangoli and Geoffrey Lubangakene.
At the other end, Villa coach Zeljko Kovacevic is expected to keep faith with Frank Ssebuufu, Patrick Kakande and Hassan Mubiru in attack as the visitors chase another important victory.
With NEC fighting to protect their unbeaten streak and Villa determined to keep their second-place hopes alive, Wednesday’s clash carries more than just three points.
