Vipers SC rounded off the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season in superb style after humbling Police FC 5-0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

The hosts got an early goal through Milton Karisa‘s composed fifth minute tap in off some beautiful delivery from Disan Ggaliwango.

The goal celebrations sabotaged the intended sixth minute standing ovation to former Uganda Cranes midfielder, Police FC captain Tonny Mawejje.

Plascon

Playing his last game, the gesture was to honour him in the same minute of his favourite shirt number, six but instead, the standing ovation was done a minute and a few seconds later.

The centre referee paused action hence fans, players of both teams clapped with some hugging Mawejje who had an ear-to-ear smile.

Fast forward, Karisa nearly added to the tally in the 15th minute but his tap in off Yunus Sentamu’s through ball missed the target by a few inches.

In the 35th minute, captain Halid Lwaliwa’s thumping header off a beautiful corner by Bobosi Byaruhanga missed the target as well, just by a whisker.

Second half

Vipers started off the second stanza with great appetite, with Karisa doubling the lead in the 52nd minute. The pacy winger latched on a rebound after Bobosi had astonishingly hit the crossbar from his own half.

Two minutes later, Bobosi stretched the home side’s readiness lead after a great solo run, to strike past Tom Ikara.

In the 71st minute, Bobosi added a fourth and his second but rather, in absolutely fascinating style. Upon receiving the ball from Najib Yiga, Bobosi beat a number of blue shirts, rounded off the goalkeeper, before scoring in an empty net.

At the death, Yunus Sentamu added a fifth from a difficult angle and it was the icing on the ready cake ahead of the trophy awarding ceremony.

The result implies the Kitende side have rounded off 30 outings with a whopping 74 points, 18 above the second side KCCA FC.
