The 2026 Bika Bya Buganda Football, five teams kept their campaign perfect as they light up chances to go through the group stage while on reverse 10 clans are out of the race.
Record champion Mmamba Namakaka, Mbogo, Mbwa, Ffumbe and Nakinsige won both matches played so far to lead their respective groups.
On the other end, Ntalaganya, Nte, Nswaswa, Kinyomo, Nsuma, Nvubu, Ngaali, Butiko, and Njobe had their journeys ended after falling far beyond the reach of group topping.
While playing game two on Friday, May 15, Nelson Ssenkatuka shone brightest with a hat trick to see his Mbogo clan beat Nswaswa 3-0 at Kawanda SS. In the first match, Mbogo defeated Nkusu 4-2.
Now, Mbogo is in a better position to progress to the round of 16, leading group B with 6 points ahead of 2023 champions Ngonge and Nkusu. This follows Nkusu’s defeat to Ngonge yesterday, May 15, at Kabaka Kyabaggu Wakisha.
Ngonge, who started brighter in the first match, now only has to beat Mbogo by a 3-goal margin in order to progress, while Nkusu will have to beat Nswaswa by a 4-goal margin. Nswaswa are already out of the race after losing both matches.
In Group A, Ffumbe also kept themselves perfect with a 2-0 win over Nte, ending their journey in this year’s campaign. Anwar Ntege and Ambrose Kigozi scored the goals in the game played at Kibuli SS.
After match two for all teams in the group, the chance to progress is now between Ffumbe and Musu with 6 and 4 points respectively. Musu, in the opener, defeated Nte 3-1 and drew with Butiko 0-0 at Kibuli SS yesterday, May 15.
After taking advantage of Musu’s dropped points in a draw with Butiko, Ffumbe and Musu will go against each other on Sunday, May 17, and the winner shall progress to the round of 16, while a draw will favor Ffumbe.
In Group C, Mmamba Namakaka, the ten-times champion, remains precise, beating Njaza 2-0 with Miiro Stuart and Musalam Nsubuga on the score sheet. After two wins in two, the Alex Gitta-coached clan will play Nvubu, who is already out, in the last match of the group.
Ngeye, under Matia Lule, bounced back with a 4-1 win over Nvubu, as they will take on Njaza in the last match. Their chances to progress are out of their hands, as they have to win and pray for Mmamba to lose.
In Group D, Ashiraf Saukan scored the only goal as Mbwa defeated Nvuma 1-0 at Lubiri SS to go to 6 points in two, having defeated Njobe 1-0 as well in their first match.
In the same group, Mpindi secured their first win 2-0 over Njobe with Kenneth Ssebaduka and Jonan Ntulume scoring the goals. Having drawn 0-0 with Kinyomo in their first match, they will take on Mbwa in a group decider.
In Group E, the chance to go to the round of 16 remains in the hands of Nvuma on four points, while Lugave and Njovu are on two points, with Lugave having to take on Nvuma in the last match of the group.
A big win for Njovu over Mpeewo may turn things around in Njovu’s favour if the leading two teams of the group serve their encounter in a draw. Njovu held Nvuma 0-0 at Lubiri SS, while Lugave drew 1-1 with Mpeewo.
In Group F, the three-team group has already seen Nsuma out of the contest after a 3-2 loss to Nyonyi Nyange at Kabaka Kyabaggu Wakisha. In the first game, Nsuma drew 0-0 with Kasimba; now, Nyange will take on Kasimba in a decider.
In Group G, Nkima won 2-0 over Kibe, while Omutima Omuyanja of Katikiro wa Buganda didn’t show up for a match against Nkerebwe.
In Group H, the battle remains between Olulyo Olulangira and the ones on Nakinsige, as they will face off on Sunday, May 17, in a decider, with Nakinsige only having to avoid a defeat. In the group, Ngaali and Ntalaganya are out.
