Black Pirates dominate Nile Special USPA Best for May awards

The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) crowned the best of May yesterday at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Rugby side, Black Pirates were voted as the Nile Special USPA Sports Personalities of last month.

The side that won the Rugby Premier League last month collected 275 votes, beating the NIC Netball Club to the award.

NIC collected 230 points for defending the East African Netball Championship in Kenya and Kibuli Table Tennis Club came third with 195 points for winning silver at Kenya’s Africa Table Tennis Club Championship.

Victoria Pearls and Vipers SC, who managed 180 points and 165 points, came fourth and fifth after winning the Capricon Series in Namibia and defending the Uganda Premier League, respectively.

In the minors category, Table Tennis player Joseph Sebatindira (8 years) won the Young Talent award collecting 400 votes. He beat Tennis player Troy Ziwwa (15 years) to the prize.

On the other hand, the Supportive or Assist Award was swept by Nathan Bwambale, a player with Black Pirates who also doubles as the Rugby chill manager of Kings Park Arena Sports facility.

He beat Heathens prop Santos Ssenteza and Vipers defender Rogers Torach to the accolade thanks to his deeds of seeing others prevail.

The USPA Executive also recognised Kansai Plascon with the Sporting Award for their contributions towards developing Sports in Uganda.

Plascon sponsors and partners with sports brands like; Vipers SC, Entebbe Mongers Rugby Club, Cricket Cranes, Arua Hill, She Cranes, Buddu FC and, now USPA.
