Cricket Cranes begin Mumbai tour strongly

Uganda’s Cricket Cranes opened their Mumbai Tour Series with a convincing 55 run win over MCA Colts XI in a 50 over match at PDTSA Oval on Monday.

The Steve Tikolo coached side recovered from a late batting collapse before their bowlers produced a disciplined performance to seal victory and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

After winning the toss, captain Fred Achelam chose to bat first and Uganda made a calm start through Simon Ssesazi and Raghav Dhawan.

The pair guided the Cranes to 36 without loss in the first 10 overs as they settled into the conditions.

Ssesaazi anchored the innings with 49 off 66 balls while Dhawan added 29. Alpesh Ramjani chipped in with 27 before Dinesh Nakrani struck a steady 51 off 54 deliveries to push Uganda towards a competitive total.

Uganda looked set for a bigger score before losing their final four wickets for just seven runs to finish on 221 all out in 45.5 overs.

The batting display, despite the opposition was that better than those put up by the Cricket Cranes in the recent years.

Leg spinner Satyam Chaudhary was the pick of the MCA Colts XI bowlers with impressive figures of 5/52.

In reply, MCA Colts XI fought through captain Pranav Kela, who made 54, and Naman Jhawar, who scored 65, but Uganda’s bowlers stayed in control.

Cosmas Kyewuta struck early before Uganda’s spinners took over the chase. Ramjani led the attack with 4/40 while Henry Ssenyondo and Joseph Baguma picked up two wickets each as MCA Colts XI were bowled out for 166.

The Cricket Cranes will be back in action again with another 50 over match on Wednesday, May 20.
