Gomba and Bulemeezi have booked their places in the 2023 Masaza Cup final after defeating their respective opponents in the semi-finals on Monday evening.
Bulemeezi overcame Mawokota 4-2 on penalties after the second leg match ended in a goalless draw in Luweero. Gomba, on the other hand, edged Buddu 1-0 in Masaka to complete a 3-1 aggregate victory.
Kenneth Kimera scored the only goal of the game for Gomba in the second half to put the final nail in the coffin of Buddu’s hopes. Gomba had won the first leg 2-1 in Kabulasoke last week.
Gomba coachFelix SsekabuzaKawooya, who was assistant coach at Busiro when they won the title last year, will have a chance to win back-to-back titles with two different teams.
Buddu had reached the final in three consecutive years, but they will now have to wait for next year to try again.
Gomba are the record winners of the Masaza Cup, having won it five times. They will be playing in their ninth final, and they last lifted the trophy in 2020 when they defeated Buddu 3-1 in Kitende.
Bulemeezi will be playing in their fourth Masaza Cup final, and they have won it twice, with their latest victory coming in 2019 when they narrowly beat Busiro 1-0 thanks to a header from KCCA strikerEmmanuel Loki.
The 2023 Masaza Cup final will be played on 28th October at a stadium yet to be named.
