Kyadondo opened their 2026 Plascon sponspored Masaza Cup campaign with a hard-earned point after holding defending champions Buweekula to a goalless draw at the Mubende National Teachers’ College Grounds on Saturday.
The tournament curtain-raiser attracted a huge crowd, with fans filling the venue for the official launch presided over by Buganda Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga. The occasion matched the excitement surrounding the return of the kingdom’s biggest football competition.
Buweekula, playing in front of their home supporters, hoped to begin the defence of their maiden Masaza Cup title with victory. Instead, they were met by a well-organised Kyadondo side that remained disciplined at the back and denied the champions clear scoring chances throughout the contest.
At full time, Kyadondo captain Trevor Kalule welcomed the away point, noting that opening matches are never easy. The result also caught many rival fans by surprise, with some expecting Buweekula to start their title defence with a win before settling for a share of the spoils.
