Young defender Trevor Kalule delivered a superb performance as Kyaddondo held defending champions Buwekula to a goalless draw in their opening match of the 2026 Masaza Cup at Mubende National Teachers College Grounds.

Kalule, who recently joined Kyaddondo from Buvuma, captained the side and played a crucial role in helping the Kaggo sons avoid defeat. His commanding display at the heart of the defence earned him the Man of the Match accolade.

The hosts started on the front foot and enjoyed large spells of possession, but Kalule marshalled his backline with authority alongside former URA FC Junior Team goalkeeper Ashraf Bwabye.

Kyaddondo looked the better side in the first half, with skillful winger Kenneth Ssebaduka causing problems for the Buwekula defence. However, the game changed after the break, especially following the introduction of Martin Seguya.

Buwekula took control of the contest in the second half through the efforts of Livingstone Kaweesi, Denis Konde and defender Paul Kiradda. Their pressure kept Kalule busy throughout the remainder of the game, while goalkeeper Bwabye produced two significant saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The result leaves both teams level on points as they look to gain an early advantage in the Bulange Group. Other group members, including three-time champions Buddu, Bululi, Busujju and Buvuma, will begin their campaigns next weekend.
