Former SC Villa head coach, Petros Koukouras has come out to open up on how challenging it was to coach at the league record holders in the preceding campaign.

Koukouras was shown the exit, less than a year into his three year contract and replaced by Jackson Magera on interim basis. The club is however searching for a permanent replacement.

“From the bottom of my heart, I wish the next Villa coach the best, because I know that person will have a tougher job than the one I had,” said the gaffer via NTV SportKnights on Monday.

The Jogoo under the Greek finished 12th in the Uganda Premier League in the 2021/22 season with 33 points and were eliminated from the Stanbic Uganda Cup in the quarterfinals by eventual winners BUL FC.

However, the 33 year old has underlined some of the challenges he encountered that in the end, made his work extremely difficult.

“Most of the time, we were traveling on the very day we were going to play at Njeru,” Koukouras lamented before adding:

“We were training on natural grass and play on an artificial turf. There was no home advantage for us,” added the visibly disgruntled tactician.

On their road to renaissance, Villa are conducting open trials for players ahead of the forthcoming season. This comes as a number of their players are destined for the exit, after the expiry of their contracts.
