JKL Lady Dolphins needed overtime to keep their unbeaten run intact as they beat a resilient UCU Lady Canons side 74-63, in a thrilling NBL game at Lugogo.
Despite trailing by 17 points at one stage, UCU put in a strong fourth quarter to force overtime in a game they came short of breaking JKL’s Invincible run.
Canon’s Rose Akon made an intelligent pass to a free Milicent Otieno who easily laid up at the buzzer, 61-61, to draw wild celebrations inside Lugogo Arena.
But the Mukono-based side were thereafter restricted to just two points in overtime as JKL made amends to win by 11 points.
Akon (28 points and 19 rebounds) did anything and everything to see UCU come through with a monstrous show but in vain.
Akon lacked enough support, besides Millicent Otieno (15 points), as no other UCU player scored in double digits, with the whole bench managing just five points.
Dolphins stars of the night had Hope Akello at the forefront with a double double of 19 points and 16 rebounds, Evelyn Nakiyinji and Flavia Oketcho posting 12 and 10 points respectively for the two-time NBL champions.
