Kampala City rose from the dead to win the 2024 Sand Beach Super Four tournament thanks to Ambrose Kigozi’s five goals.
The player-inspired his side to a 6-2 win against rivals Mutoola BSC at Kasanje Bamboo Gardens Beach Soccer Arena over the weekend.
Oscar Ssendege put Mutoola and doubled their lead in the first period. However, the Ab’emikwano answered back in the second period to win this trophy for the first time.
They laid siege to Mutoola’s area, and their efforts were rewarded with two goals that drew the game level by the end of the second period. Ambrose Kigozi orchestrated this lease of life.
In the last 12 minutes, star of the day Kigozi made it five goals to his name before Paul Kato completed the turnaround to hand coach Ivan Kulika his first-ever beach soccer trophy.
Mutoola required penalties to see off St. Lawrence University to reach the final. They drew 4-4 in normal time and won 1-0 in spot kicks.
Their opponents, Kampala City defeated Buganda Royal 6-1 en route to the final where they showed a good fighting spirit to taste glory.
The nail-biting show from the top four sides of last season was a fine way to begin the new beach soccer season, with the FUFA beach soccer league this Sunday.
