Kampala Region: Nabisunsa Girls opens USSSA Basketball qualifiers on a high

As schools continue to excel in physical education, in the Kampala regional qualifiers for the 2026 Ball Games 1, girls’ basketball giant Nabisunsa Girls School started with a big win, 30-11 over Lubiri SS.

The games took place at Hamz Stadium, with Nabisunsa playing on the northern side court, where they won the first three quarters 9-2, 14-0, and 2-0, while Lubiri SS won the second quarter 9-5.

Joy Auma top-scored the game with 9 points, rallying Nabisunsa Girls’ smooth start as they lead group A ahead of the last two games of the group on Tuesday morning at Hamz Stadium against Mengo SS and Bishop Cyprian Kihangire.

On day one of the Basketball Qualifiers in the same group, Mengo SS won 18-5 over Bishop Cyprian Kihangire. In group B, Kitante Hill defeated Aga Khan 21-12, and Kibuli SS roared with a 36-5 win over Greenhill.

With eight teams taking part in the Girls qualifiers, grouped into two groups vying for the five slots to Nationals, this year’s event will be hosted by Seroma Christian School in Mukono, scheduled for April 29 to May 9.

Meanwhile, in Boys Qualifiers, 14 school teams are grouped into three groups, and across the groups, Kibuli SS roared bigger with a 47-11 win over Kitante Hill.

Other schools like Makerere College School also won their first game, defeating Greenhill 24-17. Aga Khan won the closest contest 22-20 over Bishop Cyprian Kihangire, and Greenhill managed to beat Kyambogo College 32-21.

Meanwhile, Mengo SS boys also shone with three wins: 30-7 over Shree, 39-17 over Lubiri SS, and 22-8 over Katwe Noor, with the qualifying games to commence and climax on April 14.
