Makerere University Business School (MUBS) are assured of top spot in Group B in the 2022 Pepsi University Football League after a 1-0 away win over Nkumba University on Thursday.

Nasser Ssegabwe’s fourth-minute goal was enough to seal the 3 points against the Entebbe based university.

After five games, the Nakawa-based institution has gathered maximum points, 15, and through to the next stage as Group B leaders.

“I am thrilled by the performance of my players and it is exciting that we have beaten Nkumba twice this season. It had never happened before,” Charles Ayiekoh said after the game.

“The confidence of the team after coming from the All Africa Games in Nairobi was evident because we have also qualified to represent Uganda and Africa at large at the World stage.”

“We have a depth which is also a plus to us because we had six first-team players out today.”

“Every player that gets a chance fights hard to showcase a good performance and today I have been impressed so much with Ssegabwe and I think he is one of the best wingers in the UFL,” he noted.

In the corresponding fixture that was played in Nakawa in April, MUBS edged Nkumba by the same scoreline.

Second-placed Nkumba who are on nine points will also play in the knockout stages as Kisubi University and Muni University are on three points each with one game left on the cards.

Victoria University, and the International University of East Africa are the other teams that have so far bowed out of this year’s UFL.
