Vipers SC Congolese-born custodian Alfred Macumu Mudekereza has been named the finest footballer for October 2022, in the Real Star Monthly Awards.
The shot-stopper beat Arua Hill SC’s Rashid Toha and BUL FC’s Richard Wandyaka to walk home with a ugx. 1million cash plaque, at the event held at the Route256 Restaurant on Tuesday.
Mudekereza was impressive in his side’s qualification to the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the first time in history.
It was also just the second time a Ugandan team was making the feat, in the current version of the coveted competition.
Mudekereza kept four clean-sheets in barren stalemates against Olympic Real De Bangui and TP Mazembe over two legs for each.
However, it was his displays against Mazembe over two legs at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende and in Lubumbashi that caught the eye more.
He also kept a clean-sheet in Vipers’ Uganda Premier League opener against Soltilo Bright Stars, eventually ending 0-0.
These heroics were a continuation of the shutouts against Young Africans SC and Rayon Sport FC in the venom’s preseason international friendly matches.
Since joining the Kitende side, overall, Mudekereza has featured in eight matches and conceded just once, against KCCA FC.
