Out of Power

Last Sunday, it was confirmed that former basketball juggernaut DMark Power was relegated from the NBL to the first division.

The relegation was confirmed following a 54-61 defeat to Livingstone in the National Basketball League at the YMCA in Wandegeya.

Power were once a force to reckon with and do have five league titles to show for their enterprise along the years, only bettered by reigning Champions City Oilers on 9 titles and fallen giants, Falcons with 6 titles.

They join an infamous legion of once champions, but now languishing in the lower divisions or defunct and no longer competing at all. The DMark Power now join Falcons, Warriors, Nkumba Marines, Charging Rhinos, and Makerere University in that class. The original big three (Warriors, Falcons and Power) are now nowhere to be seen in the big legues.

It is safe to say that their fortunes looked bleak this year having won only six games, and have had to deal with a limited roster multiple player absenteeism throughout the season. For the final deciding game, they were without center Philip Ameny and SG Elvis Mutebi who deliberately went AWOL.

The team often ran on fumes down the wire in various games because of how thin their roster was built, and the addition of Taariq Powell, Kevin Ogunjimi, Clinton Omondi, and Geoffrey Soro didn’t ameliorate the situation.
