The Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 draws took place yesterday, with six Premier League clubs facing each other, while defending champion Kitara FC will visit CATIDA FC.
The draw was conducted by former Cranes captain Hassan Wasswa at FUFA House, Mengo, Kampala Uganda.
In the all-Premier League draws, Vipers Sports Club will host Mbarara City, Police FC will host Soltilo Bright Stars, and Maroons FC will be at home against Wakiso Giants.
In other draws, joint record champions Express FC and KCCA FC, both tied with 10 titles, were drawn to play their round of 32 matches away against lower division teams Total FC and Kuluva Rainbow.
All 16 games are scheduled to be played between February 19 and 28. This time around, improved facilities are hoped for, better than those in the round of 64, as FUFA Competitions Director Aisha Nalule hinted.
“Since the teams we have are at least in the regional leagues, we hope the pitches will at least meet minimum standards. They were inspected under the licensing program.”
After the draws, Wasswa, who won the trophy with SC Villa, beating his boyhood club KCCA FC 3-0 in a game he picked as his most memorable Uganda Cup match, said.
“Of all the Uganda Cup games I played in, the Namboole trophy stands out. Remember, it was a replay following the initial game in Ntungamo which was abandoned in front of a large crowd of fans from both sides.”
