Hussein Mbalangu remains in the Uganda Premier League after being named the new head coach of UPDF FC, taking on the challenge of rebuilding a side that narrowly escaped relegation last season.
The Bombo-based club confirmed his appointment on Tuesday through its official social media channels.
“We are thrilled to announce that Mbalangu Hussein has officially reported for duty as our new Head Coach,” the club said.
Mbalangu joins UPDF after a brief spell at URA FC. He made his name during a successful stint at NEC FC, where he guided the club to impressive league performances and established himself among the country’s top local coaches.
He replaces Alex Gita, who left the Army side at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 2026/27 campaign presents a fresh start for UPDF after they survived by the slimmest of margins, finishing just one point above the relegation zone. Mbalangu now faces the task of turning the club into a more competitive side.
His first assignment will be the transfer window, which opens on Wednesday, July 1, and closes on September 19, giving him the chance to strengthen the squad before the new season.
The Uganda Premier League is set to kick off on August 28, with fixtures expected to be released in the coming weeks.
