Bashir Ssemuyaba will continue in his familiar role as an assistant coach after joining Lugazi FC on a two-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season.

The former URA coach has been appointed assistant to newly named head coach Abbey Kikomeko as Lugazi strengthen their technical bench for what will be their third straight season in the top flight.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ssemuyaba Bashir, alias Bastu, to our coaching staff as the senior team’s Assistant Head Coach after signing a two-year contract,” the club said in a statement.

Known as “Bastu” in football circles, Ssemuyaba left URA at the end of last season after he and head coach Hussein Mbalangu parted ways with the Tax Collectors.

He arrives with plenty of experience, having also served as assistant coach at NEC FC and Mbarara City.

At Lugazi, he joins a technical team led by Kikomeko, with Denis Kizito as fitness coach and Jamil Ddamba in charge of goalkeepers.
