  • UPDF FC 1-2 KCCA FC

With the clock ticking down and their title hopes fading fast, KCCA FC found life when it mattered most.

The Kasasiro boys kept the Uganda Premier League title race alive with a dramatic late comeback to beat UPDF FC 2-1 at Bombo Military Ground on Wednesday evening.

For much of the game, KCCA looked headed for a costly defeat after Emmanuel Ochen gave UPDF the lead in the first half.

But two late goals in two minutes turned the match around and moved KCCA to within three points of leaders Vipers SC with two matches left.

KCCA started strongly and controlled possession early on. Herbert Achai and Ashraf Mugume kept UPDF under pressure, but clear chances were limited.

Achai sent a free kick over the bar while Mugume’s deliveries into the box failed to trouble the home side’s defence.

UPDF stayed organised and punished KCCA in the 36th minute when the in form Ochen finished calmly to put the hosts ahead.

The visitors returned for the second half with urgency and spent long periods camped in UPDF’s half.

Joel Sserunjogi shot over the bar while Ivan Ahimbisibwe had a goal ruled out for offside.

Goalkeeper Shamulani Kamya also made several important saves to keep UPDF in front as KCCA continued to push for an equaliser.

But the pressure finally paid off late in the game, in the 87th minute, Emmanuel Anyama headed home from Achai’s delivery to level the score and spark wild celebrations among the KCCA bench.

A minute later, Katenga Openga completed the comeback with the winning goal as UPDF failed to recover from the late collapse.

Anyama was later named man of the match for his impact off the bench.

The result takes KCCA to 58 points, three behind Vipers, while UPDF remain in danger, four points above relegation threatened Calvary FC.

KCCA next face URA FC away before ending the season at home against Mbarara City FC.

UPDF will host Calvary before finishing the campaign away to SC Villa.
